Jesus Guzman was signed as a free agent this offseason and has been making a tremendous case for making the Opening Day roster. Only problem is Guzman has no real position. His defense is the reason he was a free agent in the first place. Guzman says he is more comfortable at second but the Giants already have Burriss and Frandsen battling for that job. Guzman is a liability at third but has been working out at first and in left. Guzman is working with J.T. Snow at first but it is his bat that is doing all the talking. Guzman has a 14 game hit streak this spring and has been hitting moonshots. A couple of games ago, Guzman hit a blast to CF over a 35 foot fence that stood 430 ft away. He has four HRs this spring as well as a .421 BA and a 1.000 SLG%!! If Guzman and Snow can work things out at first base, the Giants will have found their platoon partner with Ishikawa who has won the first base job. My guess is that Guzman starts the year at AAA working on his first base skills but if he keeps hitting the way he is, Bochy might have no choice but to keep him. This was a great signing by Sabean and the Giants might have found that big bat everyone was wanting.

In related news, Sandoval was hit in th face by a groundball and will miss the next few games. Sandoval wears braces and the trainer had to removed his lips that were implanted in his braces. OUCH!! This could give Guzman more chances at third and to face MLB pitchers.
