Giants Need Joe Beimel

So far this spring, Jack Taschner and Alex Hinshaw have looked absolutely horrid and the Giants will need someone from the left side other than Affeldt. Joe Beimel is out there and with what Dennys Reyes just got (2 years, $3 million) the Giants should be able to sign Beimel to something less than that. Beimel is 31 and is coming off a season in where he gave up zero homeruns and possessed a 2.02 ERA. Hinshaw should start at AAA this year and the Giants really need a guy like Beimel if the Giants want to compete. They are going to rely heavily on their pitching from rotation to closer so they need the best arms available. Beimel is very affordable and more importantly he is used to the NL West. Beimel has a 2.49 ERA in just 21 IP at AT&T Park so its not a lot to go on but does suggest a lot of success in that pitcher's park. Sabean should make this deal immediately so he can start to get his reps in. Will Ohman is out there too but I think Beimel is the better fit and better pitcher. Hopefully Sabean will make a move as Taschner and Hinshaw continue to suck.

Beimel is asking for $5.5 million for two years. I cannot see him getting that but the Giants still need him. Taschner and Hinshaw continue to perform terribly this spring. Last year, Beimel inherited 60 runners and only 20 scored. Anyone thing Taschner, Hinshaw or Misch could have done that?

Beimel signed with the Nationals for $2 million. Now we are stuck with Taschner and his wonderful career 5.01 ERA
