    Barry Zito

The most remarkable statistic of spring is worth repeating from Andrew Baggarly's story in Sunday's blog: Barry Zito has faced 67 hitters and hasn't generated a single strikeout. He has allowed 10 walks, 21 hits, four homers and a 14.92 ERA. Keep in mind that he has six years remaining in his current contract.

    In a word: Wow.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

There is only one other word to describe that: OUCH. Let's hope he's just trying something new out, or is learning a new pitch, or something to that effect. Because that's just embarassing

I mean, I don't take ST statistics as gospel, but 0 strikeouts in 67 batters is quite alarming.

Zito has been working on a new delivery but the number is alarming. Zito definitely has to figure this out and this year because he is being paid a shit ton of money and hasn't delivered on anything. Righetti, Zito and Molina all have to get on the right page here and fix it. Zito is not locating his fastball whatsoever which let's hitters just sit back and wait on the offspeed stuff.

What was wrong with his old delivery? I loved it.

Same here, my best guess is that he's having confidence issues? Because he didn't fair to well last year after making a switch from AL to NL. Just a wild guess.

He tried last season to tinker with his delivery but Righetti talked him out of it after a day. That's why I said those two have to get on the right page here.

There's really only two words to describe that

    Spring Training

I take spring training stats from players with guaranteed roster spots with a grain of salt. They're either not really trying hard and/or they're tinkering with new techniques and new pitches (in the case of pitchers) because it's ST.

    Re: Barry Zito

Zito had some of the best stuff I've seen when he pitched for the A's. His curve was nearly unhittable and his fastball was a plus pitch as well. Hitters were at quite a disadvantage when they faced him, because he could drop his curve on the outside corner at the knees on any pitch -- to either a lefty or righty. His control was among the best in the business. He never put up tremendous strikeout numbers, but to not have a single one against 67 hitters is alarming.
