    Giants @ St. Louis

SF: RHP Jason Schmidt, 11-8, 3.45 ERA
Schmidt gave up four runs on two homers and eight hits over seven innings in his last outing, but took a no-decision in a 5-4 Giants victory over San Diego in 11 innings. In that game, Schmidt struck out 10 batters for the fifth time this season.

STL: RHP Jeff Suppan, 11-7, 4.25 ERA
Some defensive follies thwarted Suppan his last time out, but he has been the No. 2 starter on the Cards' staff for the second half. With every good game he turns in, Suppan gets closer to putting a claim on a Game 2 start should St. Louis make the playoffs.

    Player to watch
Moises Alou has knocked in seven runs over his past six games, including a two-run single on Thursday

    • Saturday: Giants (RHP Matt Morris, 10-13, 4.71) at Cardinals (RHP Chris Carpenter, 14-6, 2.84), 1:05 p.m. PT
    • Sunday: Giants (LHP Jonathan Sanchez, 3-0, 2.40) at Cardinals (RHP Jeff Weaver, 6-14, 5.95), 11:15 a.m. PT
Tonight's game should be interesting as Schmidt's back has been acting up and is a game time decision. Giants have to do well this series as the pads and Dodgers knock each other around. I will be in St. Louis both Saturday and Sunday so someone has to pick up the slack.

This is another key series for us, we need to win atleast 2 out of 3, especially since the dodgers and padres are going to play against eachother in a 4 game series, so wee need to win regardless to gain ground on those 2 teams!!!!!!!!

Hennessey sucked ass and Schmidt let us down as this is a huge series against one of the best teams and he couldn't go. This doesn't look good for him this offseason. Morris looked like shit as I was at the game and called it that Morris would give up 3 runs in the 1st. He gave up four. Carpenter pitched great as he is the best pitcher in the NL hands down. Only bright spot was that the Card fans gave MOrris a standing ovation and Kline got a nice one too. I also had a chance to talk a little bit with Matheny who made the trip. He said he was happy to be back in St. Louis and that retirement is not on his mind. Our playoff hopes are almost vanished now as the Padres and Phillies are ahead of us and we are 3.5 games out. We need this win today with the rookie Sanchez going.

Game 3 has been postponed due to rain. There will be no make up date unless the Giants need the game to determine whether they make the playoffs or not.
