    trade rumor.

From sportsline.com's rumor mill, under Texas Rangers

The Rangers are getting a lot of interest in 2B Alfonso Soriano. According to the New York Times, the Mets are offering Mike Cameron, while Newsday says the Padres have talked about sending Adam Eaton and Mark Loretta to Texas for Soriano and Laynce Nix.

Of coures, i'd be mighty concerned about our pitching after that move...i'd hope another one would soon follow

You've already dealt Lawrence, why deal another SP for a small upgrade at 2B?

I would assume that it would also be contengient on Soriano signing long term as well. I just don't like it, from either team's standpoint. Eaton will have trouble keeping the ball in Arlington, and Nix doesn't have enough pop to get the ball out of Petco(whereas he does in Arlington).

It's not going to happen, but I don't see how it works for either team.

Soriano is only an upgrade on Loretta if Loretta cannot return to 03-04 levels. Soriano was better in 2003, but a LOT of Soriano's value is in slugging.

Let me give you two lines (BA-OBP-SLG)
    0.268 0.309 0.512
    0.271 0.315 0.412

Both are AL second basemen and the stats are '05. The bottom one is one of the best defensive MI in baseball as well. The only difference between the two is their slugging. The top? Soriano. The bottom? Orlando Hudson.

Soriano's power has to take a hit coming to San Diego, and considering Loretta's potential to perform (as in 03 and 04), why risk it unless you're really high on Nix?

i'm definitley not high on Nix, especially not after reading some stuff on him elsewhere.

the UT said that they're not interested in Soriano, but still Nix...

I say I want to nix these rumors. (lame pun intended)

It doesn't make financial sense either. Why can't Nady play CF?

There's another little rumor going around that Eaton may be shipped to Texas for catcher Gerald Laird and either Nix or Adrian Gonzalez. It probably won't happen, but it's alot better sounding from the Padres prospective than this one.

Nady doesn't have the speed to play CF........he's built to be a corner OFer and that's where he belongs........ we should make a play to get Pierre or someone like him if we're going to make a move on a CFer

I would very happy if the Eaton for Gonzales and eithier Nix or Laird went down.

My first choice would be Gonzo and Nix becasue Laird is pretty much the same as Olivio.

Gonzo is a Gold Glove calibur 1B that has raked at every level except MLB he is like a Mark Grace (a doubles machine that has some pop) And it hink he would do Very well in Petco. I say do it now.

I think for catcher since Kottraras is so close to being ready. We see what it takes to get Piazza for 1-2 years and he can play like 70 or so games at C for Olivio and at 1B and be a situational PH.

We would have to find some pitching somewhere but Gonzo > Eaton in the long run.

I'm with everything you're saying BUT Piazza........find me a defensive specialist for next year, not an aging guy who plays a horrible defensive backstop........ ie Brad Ausmus ( or someone like him )

    and welcome back

Terrible talks and they are on AM radio where they will die. Nady can play CF, he might not be the best but he can play. You have to work with what you have. Lofton would be a good one year guy but I doubt anyone is going to get Pierre since the Marlins have no one to replace him according to Marlin officials.
