Jake Peavy leads the majors in Ks

with 10 Ks in his 5 hit shutout today Jake Peavy became the major league strike out leader.

It probably won't last too long, however, with Pedro Martinez and Johan Santana both behind him by only two.

Pedro's next start is against us on Tuesday, btw

He also has a K/9 ratio near 10, right? The Padres have a great young ace there.

well, Pedro reclaimed the lead with his 23rd start (as opposed to Peavy's 22) But he only has two more than Jake as he was only able to mow down 4 Padres, en route to losing 8-3 against Chan Ho Park's dominating performance

Man Peavy is some kind of pitcher. He has been really good the last couple of seasons for you guys. Was he a really good prospect when he broke into the majors, or did he just come out of nowhere?

Quite a good battle we have brewing! Would suck to lose it because he ends up with one less start if that does happen.

He was a 15th round pick, but proceeded to do well in the minors. He was called up from AA Mobile in 2002 after a slew of pitchers found their way to the DL the same week Oliver Perez was called up for the first time. He's never pitched a game at the AAA level.

Jake's major league debut was a 1-0 loss to the New York Yankees.

Thanks Leo! I am just trying to get a feel for the path of good pitchers these days. Peavy will be such a stud for many years, you should feel real lucky!

Jake Peavy k's 9 in another losing effort, i'm assuming Johan Santana K'd 10 in his last start because he's only behind Jake by 1 now.

Either way, the Jake K update has Jake still in the lead

let's not pervert my Jake Peavy thread to bash Klesko. We can do that anywhere else.

(Klekso probably knew about the "timley hit" in May. I guess he forgot)
