Once again, Casey Blake was brought in because Andy LaRoche and Blake Dewitt weren't cutting it at third base. The price of Santana was steep, I agree wholeheartedly and probably could have been avoided if the McCourts weren't such misers, but regardless, the deal made LaRoche expendable in the Manny Ramirez trade.

It's ok for the Dodgers to have traded away a good catcher two years ago even though he'd come in real handy right now because it made sense at the time of the trade, but the Chargers are idiots because they didn't throw the bank at Michael Turner because they still had LT in his prime at the time?

Shitty comparison. For one, the Chargers got nothing in return for Turner. Secondly, Santana was a minor league catcher, whereas Turner was a four year NFL veteran!!

Neither point matters.

At the time of the deal it didn't make sense to pay Turner like a franchise back to continue to play behind LT. Whether or not they got something in return for him doesn't affect that point.

Meanwhile, with Martin on the shelf and a 40 yr old Brad Ausmus and slap hitter AJ Ellis being their only fallback guys the Dodgers would be real happy to still have Carlos Santana right now. You even said as much in your thread in the Dodgers forum.

So, we can either excuse moves because they made sense at the time or we cannot. You can't have it both ways depending on which one suits your argument.

For the record, I agree with you that the Santana trade made sense at the time and therefore the Dodgers shouldn't be called stupid for trading him for Blake.
