Offseason recap thus far

In short: No real news thus far and I just wanted to get the thread up.

I doubt it was intentional, but I like the inadvertent play on words here, considering who's going to start at first if/when Adrian's traded.

Gonzalez is a perfect fit for many contenders, and he's an incredible bargain: He's due just $4.5 million in 2010 with a club option $5.5 million in 2011. That's still too rich for the Padres' blood, given the Moores' divorce and the lack of funds in the bank accounts of Jeff Moorad and his investors. One reason new GM Jed Hoyer is so excited about taking control in San Diego is the chance to start with a blank slate. Once he deals Gonzalez, it will really be blank.
