I thought Joba was supposed to be a starter and was just used in the pen this year due to no room in the Yankees rotation?

Not just blogs, ESPN is reporting that the Padres are exchanging names with many teams.

If he was the badass starter everyone thought he would be, why would';t there have been room? The bullpen was weak and he had to stay there. During the season when the starters were dropping like flies, they were forced to move him and unfortunately it wound up hurting him. Joba has had a history of injuries and has better numbers as a reliever.

Towers said he's going to assess Jake's trade value, so of course teams are exchanging names with the Padres.

I didn't think Towers was going to try and assess his trade value on MLB: The Show.

All these rumors started because Kevin Towers told the San Diego media that he's going into this offseason assessing the trade values of the entire roster....including Jake.

Everything Towers has said thus far has indicated that he won't let go of Jake unless he gets a "Dan Haren like deal" but he wants to know what teams are willing to offer.

There's only one way for him to know what teams are willing to offer, so it's only natural that we're seeing a large influx of teams offering names.

I didn't really have one. I was just pointing out that all these rumors surfacing comes as no surprise.

Oh, I was just pointing out that this isn't the creation of the bloggers. All Kool and the Gang Giants offered Jack Taschner, Fred Lewis and Bengie Molina

Re: Jake Peavy traded this offseason?

Why Peavy and SD won't agree with a trade to:

    Atlanta: rebuilding
New York: Peavy isn't a closer.
    Philadelphia: Is Carlos Carrasco enough?
    Florida: Jeffrey Loria
    Washington: sucks

St. Louis: didn't have the prospects to even get Jon Rauch
Houston: traded their "valuable" prospects for Tejada
Chicago: They'll want to hold on to Josh Vitters
Milwaukee: already dealt their top prospect for Sabathia
Pittsburgh: only if Towers is sadistic enough
    Cincinnati: Dusty Baker

    Colorado: Coors Field
Arizona: exhausted their farm for Dan Haren and Adam Dunn
San Francisco: Peavy would be an excellent hitter in the 9-hole in their lineup, but they still need to fill out the other 8 spots.

Correct, Peavy isn't a closer....but if the Mets lose Pedro and Ollie Perez, they may need another starter too. Imagine a rotation of Johan, Peavy, Pelfrey, Maine.
