What do past prospects have anything to do with current prospects? A farm system can get depleted quickly.

To Dry pointing out that the Yankees have had a few successful players come up from their farm system in the past. Like it has anything to do with the state of the farm system right now?

Put me down as a supporter of the "Phil Hughes is overrated" movement.

We had 5 quality MLers from the past 9 years. They had two.
Nick Johnson can't stay on the damn field long enough to be considered quality. Not to mention that he's only had 2-3 good years and has nowhere near enough power to be a real quality MLB 1B...

Eric Milton also had 3 mediocre years, where he won 10+ games, but his lowest ERA was 4.32, and his career ERA is over 5.

Re: Jake Peavy traded this offseason?

The Cubs may have overtaken the Braves as the favorites to land Jake Peavy, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
Felix Pie would seem to be pretty close to a lock to be included in a Peavy deal with the Cubs. Other possibilities include Rich Hill, Sean Marshall, Ronny Cedeno, Mike Fontenot and Donald Veal. Rosenthal believes the Cubs could possibly acquire Peavy and re-sign Ryan Dempster, but that it would cost them a chance of retaining Kerry Wood.
Is Pie still considered a top prospect?? I like Fontenot in the deal and Hill could impact right away. Still need a a good, can;t miss prospect to get my full attention.

OK, the Padres better not trade Peavy to the Cubs. I just read that they are also trying to re-sign Dempster in addition to getting Peavy. That would be FUBAR!! Peavy, Zambrano, Harden, Dempster and Lilly in the same rotation??? **** that!!

Cubs alone don't have the pieces to get it done........so there has to be a 3rd team in the mix.......or this is all BS

    Brace yourselves Pads fans.......

3:03pm: Peter Abraham says that Kevin Towers has told Peavy that he will be traded and that negotiations have been narrowed to three teams. The Yankees are not in the mix as all three clubs are in the NL. Abraham speculates that in addition to the Cubs and Braves, the third team could be the Astros or Cardinals.

4:05pm: Ken Rosenthal has some of the names being offered by the Braves for Peavy. According to Rosenthal, the Braves are offering Yunel Escobar, either Jo-Jo Reyes or Charlie Morton and an unnamed player believed to be a top prospect. Rosenthal does not have any details on the Cubs' package but notes that it is likely to be "fluid".
