    Hire Joe Torre?

Only speculation, but suppose Joe Torre were fired in NY (rumor is that Joe Torre is on thin ice), and became available, would you instantly fire Bud Black in order to bring Torre in? Thoughts.

    Re: Hire Joe Torre?

HELL NO!! Black is a much better manager for this kind of ballclub. The only way I hire Torre is for a assistant or some sort of front office role. There's no way I'm firing Black after 1 year.

    Re: Hire Joe Torre?

Why fire Bud Black after one year in which he missed the playoffs in game 163 as a rookie manager?

    Talk about reactionary

I actually like Black as a manager from what I've seen.

I think the Padres were fortunate to have Bud Black replace Bruce Bochy. Black should've been managing a team years ago.

    Re: Hire Joe Torre?

People are just asking curious questions to see what reactions they'll have, let's not get our panties in a bunch. Noone is saying Black should be fired or that Trevor should be taken out of the closer role for good.

I think Hollywood and someone else had a good point about splitting time between Trevor and Heath Bell.

Heath Bell was straight sexy in that tie-breaker game.

Right, and my proverbial panties aren't in a bunch at all.

It's just my opinion that anyone who honestly believes we should do this is being very reactionary.

I realized DK was posing the question just for the sake of getting opinions...and that's my opinion.

    Re: Hire Joe Torre?

It's the same reason I put the Trevor Hoffman question up there as well, I wanted to see what the reactions were going to be. The more I think about it, the more I think the Padres should give Bell a good number of save opportunites to see how he handles it.

Torre isn't being fired, his contract is up and Black shouldn't be fired.

    Re: Hire Joe Torre?

The way Torre sounded last night, referring to the Yankees as "them" and "they", it sounds like he knows this is the last time we see him in the Yankees dugout.

It'll be interesting to see where he goes from here.

    Re: Hire Joe Torre?

You know he'll get picked up by ESPN or Fox. I think he'd be a good commentator. I'd rather listen to Torre than John "I know everything" Kruk.

    Re: Hire Joe Torre?

Torre will find a managing no doubt. He would be welcomed back in St. Louis in a heartbeat. Girardi would be a good fit there too.
