Take Dunn of the board, could be headed to Brewers

    Is Dunn done in Cincy?
Jul 19 - According to a radio report in Milwaukee, the Brewers are believed to be close to acquiring Adam Dunn from the Brewers in exchange for outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr., right-handed reliever Matt Wise and an infield prospect. Dunn can become a free agent at the end of this season if he gets traded.

Wow, that would be quite a deal for the Brewers.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

The Brewers think they need more power?

Danny wouldn't let me hear the end of Tony Gwynn Jr playing for the Reds.

Brewers defense doesn't need Dunn in that OF.......they will feel that.......otherwise.......hand them the Central if that happens

Reefer, you make me laugh dude. The sig stays up until Dunn is officially traded to another team besides San Diego.

Re: Take Dunn of the board, could be headed to Brewers

So, in return for Adam Dunn, who should have around 35-40 HRs again this year and who has had an OPS over .900 in three of the past four years (2004, 2005, 2007), the Reds would get...

Tony Gwynn Jr., who hasn't hit at any minor league level beyond an Alex Sanchez esque 300-360-390 in Nashville, and who wasn't particularly good in college

Matt Wise, who has a good pitching record over seven years...as a reliever.

    And an undisclosed infield prospect.

    You've got to be kidding.

And considering they don't have infield prospects to compensate for that gap outside of Braun, which is not leaving of course.... where's my vomit bucket?

This rumor has been labeled as unfounded and I REALLY doubt that it is happening like that considering what Krivsky (from other sources) supposedly asked for Dunn from the Angels.

I just copied and pasted it...I found that on ESPN Insider MLB Rumor page. They're just reporting that it was said on Brewers radio. All the rumor said was "they were close". We may still see this deal happen, who knows.

Re: Take Dunn of the board, could be headed to Brewers

No deal: Journalistic accountability took a hit Thursday after a Cincinnati radio personality posted an entry on his blog that said the following:

"From the MLB rumor mill ... Dunn to Brewers for Matt Wise, Tony Gwynn Jr. and an infield prospect."

"It was news to me," Dunn said. "Where does that stuff come from?"

A Milwaukee station saw the post and reported it as fact. Both teams' general managers, Wayne Krivsky from the Reds and Doug Melvin from the Brewers, spent parts of their days dismissing the report as baseless.

"I'm taking more calls deflecting these kinds of rumors than I've had talking to GMs," said Melvin, whose club is already flush with left-handed-hitting outfielders. "There are freaking geeks who get ... off on this kind of stuff."

The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31 and many rumors will circulate for the next couple of weeks. Dunn's name has frequently come up this summer as someone who could be moved to a contender by Cincinnati. Right fielder Ken Griffey Jr. caught wind of the erroneous report.

"I knew Dan O'Brien couldn't get enough of you," Griffey joked to Dunn. O'Brien, the former Reds' GM, now works as a Brewers' assistant GM.
It could be a possibility, but I really doubt it. And if it did happen, I would be nearing my last straw with that team.

Oh and the guy who reported it was Lance Mcallister.

I find it laughable that Junior Gwynn is considered a main bargaining chip in any big deal, like Scott Linebrink was/is.

Brewers Re: Take Dunn of the board, could be headed to Brewers

I sure hope that offer is NOT true. I really think giving up Gywnn is a mistake. He is suppose to be the future lead-off hitter. We dont need anymore bad defensive, high-strikeout hitters on our roster. And giving up Wise from our already shaky at times bullpen would be fatal in my opinion!!!!

Please Brewers do NOT make that trade. The Reds will get the better of that trade!!!

If this trade goes through, I will definitely have to bash my head against the wall!!!

Re: Take Dunn of the board, could be headed to Brewers

I sincerely hope your GM Doug Melvin feels the same way. Maybe Dunn isn't what the Brewers need (I can't say), but that package is definitely not what the Reds need.
