Don't freak out too much guys......This was posted on ESPN board.

    boards.espn.go.com/boards...248&lid=13

"This was just reported by two different "nightly news" (NBC and FOX)

They said to replace Barfield a source in the front office reports that they will be signing Soriano.

KT minutes later reported (over the phone) that he just finished a serious interview with a "high profile player/perenial all star" and his agent.

Alderson declined to comment on anything"

I don't trust rumors, especially not rumors posted on message boards... especially not rumors posted on ESPN message boards.

I'll believe that when I see it.

Bro, you don't know a damn thing about me. I do watch all of baseball on a regular basis and I especially keep up with the teams in my own division. I will debate a guy who thinks trading a ROY candidate for two unproven guys anyday of the week. Plus we weren't debating on this particular issue.

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees turned down a chance to trade Gary Sheffield for Scott Linebrink.
It's unclear whether they have a chance to do the deal straight up. There was a three-way proposal sending Sheffield and cash to Cleveland, Kevin Kouzmanoff to San Diego and Linebrink to New York. There must be some other team out there willing to give up quite a bit if the Yankees didn't jump on that. Even if they aren't particularly high on Linebrink, they could have moved him elsewhere for something that better fit their needs. There are plenty of clubs out there that would like to have Linebrink working in the eighth or ninth inning. Nov. 9 - 11:17 pm et

I doubt they trade Linebrink for Giles now either.

I wouldn't mind Linebrink for Sheffield

Cla can step in for Scotty

But, by that link, Scotty for Sheffield won't happen.

Darren Balsley signs 2 year extension.

    down near the bottom.

    Balsley agrees to terms

The Padres and Balsley, whose staff led the league in ERA this year, have reached agreement on a two-year contract that will be announced today. Negotiations took a detour after Balsley retained an adviser/agent, but Towers and Balsley worked through it after new manager Bud Black endorsed Balsley.
Glad that concern is no more.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres haven't ruled out dealing Brian Giles.
They hardly need the money. However, there might be a slight chance that the Padres would consider moving Giles and bringing in a younger replacement. Giles, who turns 36 in January, is owed $21 million for two years or $27 million for three, depending on whether his 2009 option is exercised. Under the terms of the deal, Giles had full no-trade protection last season. However, Giles he can now be shipped without his consent to 21 clubs. He still has no-trade protection for Boston, Baltimore, Detroit, Washington and four low revenue-clubs.
I think Giles would do better awa from Petco. Boston would be a good fit for him but since he doesn't want to go there, Chicago maybe?

Cubs don't want Pierre back and they are to be heavy bidders on Soriano moreso than Lee.
