he probably said what he said (in regards to getting a 3rd baseman for the "long term") while he was in discussions about Betimit.

I'm sure he was, at the time, confident we'd get him and jumped the gun in making that remark to the public before anything was actually done.

Well he should pat himself on the back....he failed to do what was needed to get the missing piece at the most imporant time......

KT's made some good moves, he's gotten us some guys both known and by luck of the draw....but that's his job.....his job is to get what's needed when it's needed.... and we've needed a 3bag for a while now, there were a few out there to be had, and for a very expendable person IMO, and he flat failed....

    UGH !!

    Padres

Kevin Towers has allowed the Dodgers to climb back in the NL West race. Had the Padres acquired even Betemit, it would have buried the Dodgers in my opinion.

nah, they still got Maddux and Lugo, and third base wasn't their biggest need. They mainly got Betimit to block us from doing so.

And what about the Livan Hernandez trade? Is it just me that's not worried about this?

Livan Hernandez makes that rotation instantly tough..... a helluva 1 2 punch....there is no other way to look at it...and now Webb doesn't have to do it all

All outstanding 6 and a half innings worth of work before blowing his lead on a 2 run Brian Giles HR outings aside, Livan Herandez hasn't exactly been that good this year.

Peavy hasn't exactly been lights out all year either.......but you still don't want to face him......Hernandez is a steady 200+ inning eater....and he's pretty consistant overall.... I'd have loved to have him here

eating innings is all fine and dandy when you're actually pitching well while "eating" them.

and Jake Peavy >>>>>> Livan Hernandez

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'd count Maddux out

but, considering how he's pitched prior to his last couple games, I'm not quite as worried about him as I once would've been.

    and Maddux >> Livan

yes Maddux has had a far better career.......but right now at this point in time, I would consider them close to the same types of guys....

control, not going to blow anyone away, can lull a team to death, and will eat up innings....both can own a game..... and both can also get lit up now

Livan hernadez lead the league in losses in 2002 and the Giants still made it to the WS and lost it in part thanks to Livan. Livan, Maddux and Peavy have not had a good season thus far and right now I don't think anyone should be afraid of them.
