Ryan Meaux starts the perfect game

Portland lost 5-4 in game one (nine innings) to Sacramento (A’s) and won 5-0 behind a perfect game from the pitching staff in the nightcap
Ryan Meaux got a spot start, his first of the year, and pitched exceptionally well, tossing four innings of scoreless ball without allowing a hit and striking out four. He combined with Aquilino Lopez and Cla Meredith to notch a seven-inning perfect game. Meaux came into the game with 29 runs allowed over 21.1 innings with Triple-A Portland on 43 hits and 10 walks. All but the innings pitched stayed the same. Since returning to Portland from Mobile, Meaux has an ERA of 2.00.

It was the first perfect game in Portland Beavers' history – a span that runs 91 years.

With a chance at a seven-inning complete game one-hitter, Eric Junge trotted to the mound in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a single and homer two the first two batters, tying the game. He ended up giving up the two runs on three hits over seven. It is the sixth time he has given up five hits or fewer but he has surrendered three homers over the last two games. Junge has given up two runs or less in seven of his 12 starts.

Jim Brower blew his second save in as many days, giving up three runs in the bottom of the ninth on five hits in a third of an inning. This came after Jon Knott delivered a two-run single in the top of the set to give Portland the lead. The right-hander has given up six runs over his last inning and a third on eight hits and two walks. He has now surrendered a run in three straight outings and the opposition is hitting at a .579 clip off him.

Jon Knott’s single in the ninth inning gave him four RBI’s over the last two games. He followed it up by going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the nightcap to give him five RBI’s over the last three. Knott has seven hits in his last 14 at bats. The slugger is hitting .306 for the year with runners in scoring position and his 39 RBI’s rank second on the team.
