Peavy's stuggling, but he still has two outstanding years under his belt.

    Others might not, but i'd say it's close....but i'd still say Peavy>Young

    Padres

Good 1-2 rotation provided the Pads can keep up. History is against them but hey, its is the new millenium and all.....Think good thoughts......

San Diego got one heck of a deal to get Young. I am not sure how well Adrian Gonzalez is playing, but with the play of Young, I am sure Padres fans don't really care about Gonzalez.

The Rangers have up Young, who had excelled for them pitching at home (which is extremely difficult) for a guy who had injury questions in Eaton (couldn't he not throw his curveball in August because of his elbow?) and Otsuki.

If the Rangers had not made this trade, they would still have Young, and have a great 1-2 pairing with Millwood. Where Millwood struggles at Arlington, Young had success there last season. With those two, Showalter could organize his rotation so Young pitches the big games at home, and Millwood gets the big ones on the road.

Absolutely stupid trade though, especially considering Adam Eaton's injury concern, and impending free agency status.

Adrian Gonzalez's 17 game hitting streak came to an end yesterday.

He's been good with the bat and excellent with the glove.

Someone should arrest Kevin Towers because the Rangers got robbed in this deal.

Hollywood......I would like to see us make a run at a frontline #2 arm still.....and have Chris Young as our #3 still......I think this would make our 123 punch damn good, and is what is needed IMO.....

Is Chris Young making a strong case for himself as a #2, you bet....Do I still think we need an established frontline #2....YOU BET !!!

I agree, i'm not trying to insinuate that we shouldn't go after Zito or someone of his caliber with the freed up payroll.

I'm just asking if Chris Young now fits your definition of a "legit #2" yet.

And I think Chris Young is doing a mighty fine job of establishing himself as a "frontline #2" but that's just me.

Again, this question has no bearing on whether or not we should go after another one in the offseason.

However....(and this is assuming Peavy doesn't continue to stumble, but rather reestablishes himself as we all expect him to...) with CY's performance combined with KT's ability to find decent pitchers out of nowhere for cheap, if it came down to a choice between an "established frontline #2" or a Carlos Lee type...i'd go with the latter.

That said, i'm only speaking in theory, because with Lee probably being the only "superstar" caliber offensive FA this offseason somehow I doubt the Padres will be in the running for him, with or without the freed up payroll.
