the quality of the Padres "power" hitters has absolutly zero effect on the data I used to show that PetCo played as a pitchers park in 2004 and 2005.

The data that was used was specifically picked for the sole reason of negating the effect of the Padres not having power hitters that hit HRs.

The quality of power hitters has zero to do with humidity or buildings as well.....why did you swing away from the current conversation.....??

you're the one that made the retort that people jumped to the conclusion that it's a pitchers park with the reasoning that "the biggest factor is you have to have power hitters to hit HRs"

I was simply counter-arguing that with the fact that still remains that the numbers showed the park to play as people "jumped to the conclusion" of it playing.

I don't know too much about the whole "marine layer" or "construction effect" or how humidity plays on the ball (although i'm sure you're right on that one)
All I can tell you is that a wide variety of players (not Padres hitters) had more trouble hitting HRs in PetCo in 2004 and 2005 than they did in most other places in the NL....however, that doesn't appear to be the case this year going off pure observation.

....and I think this originally started with a question about why opposing teams players didnt have as much trouble hitting HR's here as we do ? To which the answer was clearly personell......but I don't remember since that was so damn long ago

I'm sure this did all start with the accusation that opposing hitters don't have as much trouble hitting HRs in PetCo than the Padres do....I think that was fairly obvious and hard to dispute.

The debate was born in that one side thinks that equates to PetCo not being the pitcher's park that it's proclaimed to be by sportswriters nationwide and some fans, wheras others think it simply equates to the Padres not having home run hitters and having what power they do have further suppressed by the pitcher's park.

Well it's clearly not a pitcher friendly park in '06........ while it still may not be a hitter friendly park either, I've always maintained that it plays fair....that it was our personell that was the issue.....

So in truth.....I'm not even sure what the debate is anymore.......Petco gives up the HR....and has proven that this year.....so let me know what you disagree with now ?

that's the thing...if we're only talking about this year I really don't disagree with anything. Hell, even the Padres seem to be hitting more home runs this year than in the past two years.

Right now i'm just curious by how much the ranking has gone up.

As I have said before, the legend of Petco is no more than a myth; a pitcher's park it may be, but not by much.

Blaming the size of petco for the lack of power production over the past two years is what this was all about anyway....and it's a joke to blame the ballpark as this year is proving .... "If you hit it, it will go"

see, that's where you have always, and apparantly still do, misunderstood me (and others making this, really kinda pointless, argument)

I'm not blaming the size of the park (or moreso the weather conditions, which apparantly have more effect than the dimensions) on the lack of HRs, merely stating that it helps contribute to an already feeble offense.

If I went back and deleted every post of mine that I stated that I know and agree that the 2004 and 2005 Padres didn't have any real power hitters my post count would probably be cut in half.

    A hitter friendly park? Cmon.

If you thought it plays fair the past two years do you maintain that it's playing like somewhat of a bandbox this year?...because the HRs on both sides are way up than they have been the past two.

I think that there is more offense due to our line up actually hits the ball out also.....something that was sorely lacking last year.....on top of that yes there are more HR's.......but IMO mainly due to us actually hitting them as well.....
