as long as they let me know that they're "in negotiations" i'll be content.

I'd like to know the dollar amounts being offered, but if they publically let us know that they're publically letting other GMs know that as well.

I this KT can say that he's talked to other GM's about availability of some players, but if he comes out and says who he's asking about, that would give other GM's a reason to go after that player as well. Hold your cards close.....

That's not what we're talking about here.....we're talking about existing contracts of players we want to keep and lock up........not FA's we have no real say in.....

whether it be the fences, people's "heads", declining "marine layer" or what, clearly something has changed from the past two seasons and now.

I'll still find the numbers when the season is at least halfway over, though. But I get the feeling PetCo's opposing team HR rankings will be higher this year than the last two.

I get my info from another poster on another forum.

I can always ask her if she's done the taks thus far.

Or I can just take the extra time to figure it out myself.

14 HR's at Petco during the 3 game series this weekend...... No other ballpark in MLB can make that claim.....I would like to officially debunk the BS statement that Petco is a pitchers park.....Since it clearly plays at the minimum fairly to both sides of the ball....

So you'd like to throw into the trash can two seasons' worth of data because of 3 games?

I hardly think it's been just 3 games......this 3 games just sealed up this debate for me........Petco isn't a pitchers park, it's a fair park where a ball can clearly be hit out.....14HR's in 3 days is evidence of that.....HR totals are up since we finally got some talent in here, and opposing teams once again seem to have no problem crushing the ball outta here......

IMO this case is closed! Petco is NOT a pitchers park!

I realize HRs are up, on both sides, I just found your case-closed post based off three games to be a bit silly.

And, nobody has ever said that getting more talent into the team wouldn't increase home runs. That's only obvious. More talent in the grand canyon would equal more home runs there than less talent. (Yeah, that's a tad much of an exageration, but i hope you get my point.)

When you want to measure the ability to hit the long ball in a park you compare it to other parks, not to itself.

I'll get ahold of this year's numbers sometime this week (and, to be perfectly honest, i'm sure the numbers that are pertinant will be up as well....then again, I thought that last year before getting the numbers and it turned out they were down)

Anyways, even if this year the park proves to give up more home runs per at bat than other parks than it has the past two seasons it's still 1 year out of 3...and the year in which they moved the fences in.

None of the above takes away from the obvious fact that if you have better hitters on the team you'll see more home runs, nor does it take away from the fact that if you hit the ball hard enough it'll leave any park.

Petco warming to 2006 notion of more homers

    By Tom Krasovic
    UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER
    June 26, 2006

Petco Park is playing smaller than its average over the past two years.

Home runs per game at San Diego's downtown ballpark are up 33 percent from the park's average entering this season. In the past three games, the Padres and Mariners combined for 14 homers, the most of any series at Petco.

“The ball's really carrying well right now,” right fielder Brian Giles said yesterday after the Padres' 40th home game. “It's warm and humid. Hopefully it stays warm and humid the rest of the year.”

Even before temperatures rose, anecdotal accounts hinted of better carry. A few Padres pitchers said in April that the baseballs, in general, felt harder. Manager Bruce Bochy said several weeks ago that balls were carrying better at Petco than they did at the start of either of the previous two seasons.

Moving the right-center fence nine feet closer has resulted in maybe a few more homers. Bochy said recent construction downtown could've altered air flow to increase carry.

Reliever Scott Linebrink, who sits in the home bullpen beyond center field, said “the atmospheric conditions are what causes (the ball) either to jump or fall short. The weather being hot like it is, and watching the ball jump out of the yard in batting practice, I think everybody wasn't surprised.

“When the conditions are right, this can be a hitters park, or it can be a pitchers park. Call it the new Candlestick Park. It's also like Wrigley Field. When the wind's blowing in off the lake, it's going to be a 1-0 ballgame after 16 innings there. If it's blowing out, you'll get 20 runs.”

All 14 homers in the Mariners series came with the bases empty.
