Ryan's going to the disabled list, most likely.

The Padres are leaning toward placing Ryan Klesko on the disabled list for the first week or two of the season.

"There's a good possibility he may go on the disabled list," manager Bruce Bochy said.

"We want him real close if not 100 percent. It's the best thing for him and the club. We feel like we can give him a little bit of time right now if he does start on the disabled list."

For some reason, I think it might actually help them even if Gonzalez starts.

    Of course it will help.........

anyone would help considering Klesko's stats last year......and A. Gonzalez is at least a real 1bman and pretty smooth on defense.........his bat may not be the best right out of the shoot, but I think he can come close to these pathetic stats.........

Ryan Klesko will have surgery on his left shoulder Monday and expects to miss two to four months. Klesko said doctors will shave the bone in his AC joint to give him better range of motion. "It's probably best to go ahead and do it instead of having a roller-coaster all year," Klesko said. "The MRI did not show very good news." Adrian Gonzalez will fill in at first base. Even if his rehab goes well, don't expect Klesko back before the All-Star break.

From a Padre's fan point of view what does the loss of Klesko mean?
Gonzalez looks very good so far.

best thing to happen to us would be for him to be forced into retirement, and we get a portion of his salary back.........that way would could go get some PITCHING !!!

by the time the pitching that we need will be available again we'd have Klesko's salary off the books anyways.

Acquiring baseball players is not like going to the local Wal Mart...they have to be available for acquiring first.

actually trades are made all the time..........acquire pitchers is an everyday event........acquiring quality arms isn't..........of course we want a quality arm here finally, but don't confuse some that come in here by saying that you can't just go get arms...... because you can

i was reffering to the type of arm you are calling for.

Sure, they can always bring somebody in. But that somebody would have just as many question marks as those that can take their place without having to give up someone in return. (ie Stauffer, Sweeney, someone else currently in AAA, etc etc.)

Actually this is the first time, and you can confirm this, that I haven't yelled for a frontline #2 arm........I left it at "some pitching"............which is pretty much anything and everything out there that is better than the crap we're seeing in this first week

good point, I guess I was just in "auto drive" mode after seeing you request pitching again

Anyways, i'd rather they not make a desperation trade when all we'd get back in return would be someone with just as many question marks as, say, Tim Stauffer would.

They should look, though, just incase someone would accept what would be a good deal.

well I wouldn't call it desperation when out "#2 starter" in Estes goes down.... we're in real trouble here......this should have been the wake up call....what can be done exactly I don't know, but I'm not a GM or CEO..... and they should know.... I'm just saying that sitting around and hoping against hope is tantamount to failure....

Estes started the 2nd game, but he's far from our #2 starter

Well when they gave the set rotation he was in the #2 slot........typically that means he's our #2 starter......you can argue if you want, it's not really that important.......I think you know exactly what was being said
