    Pirates McLouth An Untouchable

A baseball executive with knowledge of the Pirates' plans told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal that the club would not trade Nate McLouth for Robinson Cano and would not move the outfielder at all unless it was for "a dramatic overpay."
Cano is younger than McLouth by a year, has the same career OPS while facing a higher percentage of lefties and tougher competition in the AL and is a lot more likely to last at second base than McLouth is in center field. The Pirates should make that trade every day of the week, but while the Yankees are believed to be interested in McLouth, there's nothing to say that they'd be willing to do such a deal.
McLouth had an All Star year hitting .276/.356/.497 with 26 HRs and 94 RBI. Nate also played very well defensively in CF. I personally would not trade Nate for Cano after losing Bay's bat from the lineup. Pirates need his power and defense in CF. Plus he comes at a small price tag so there is no reason to trade him unless it is for something they couldn't refuse.

An unmotivated, sloppy defensive 2B would be bad karma for a team.. that never wins

i wouldn't want to trade Cano for McClouth either. Why is everyone giving up on Cano so quickly? He has one bad season after he came in 2nd for the batting title, and everyone thinks he sucks. Besides, who else would play 2B?

Who will play center for the Yankees is a question you have to ask too. No one is giving up on Cano or at least I'm not but I do have to look at this year. McLouth progressed as Cano regressed. Plus McLouth has more power than Cano which this Pirates lineup needs plus he plays a great CF. Plus the Pirates would be taking on money getting Cano so it wouldn't make sense.

Cano will be playing kickball with Ruben Mateo in a few years.
