A's A's sign Kotsay to extension

Athletics re-signed outfielder Mark Kotsay to a three-year contract through 2008.
Kotsay had a $7.05 million player option for next year and is expected to receive $7.5 million in 2007 and 2008. He's worth the money at this time, but that would change if he loses a step in center field.

Aken to what the marlins did a couple years ago with Mike Lowell. People were so sure he'd be dealt, and they kept him, then brought in some veterans and well.. you know the rest.

Could this happen... to Oakland? Dun dun dunnnnnnnn.

It's a good move because the A's do need Kotsay. However it's too much money IMO for his production. But I guess that's todays current market for you.

Plus there are no great CFers on the market this upcoming offseason. A's did well to get him now and end the trade talk and concentrate on winning.

For some reason I thought he was like 31, so learning that he is a few years younger does make the deal seem better. I was concerned about him losing a step or two in the outfield if he was 31.

And good point on the weak CF market.

Looks like this new ownership is committed to keeping our guys here. I'm absolutely thrilled by this news. I love watching Kots do his thing day in and day out. I may be going out on a limb but the trade that brought Kots here has got to be one of the best in A's history, if not the best.
