    A's Red Sox @ A's; 3 game series

Wow I haven't done one of these things in a while... it's been a loooooong offseason. Anyhoodles, let's get to it!

    4-13-09
    Lester vs Braden

So Lester is trying to bounce back from his last start in which he allowed eight hits and five runs in five innings against the Rays. Last year, he was very inconsistent while on the road, with a 5-5 record and a 4.09 ERA. Braden pitched well in his first start against the Halos, allowing only three runs in six innings, but he couldn't keep up with Saunders, who shut us out.

    4-14-09
    Matsuzaka vs Eveland

Dice-K is too looking to rebound after his last start, where he struggled with his control and allowed three homers to the Rays. Eveland (who is apparently the "most experienced" of all the pitchers on our staff), gave up three runs on eight hits in his '09 debut against the Halos. Last time he faced the Sox, it was very ugly - just two innings with nine runs allowed. Yikes.

    4-15-09
    Wakefield vs Anderson

Wakefield had an iffy start his last time out, but he was able to keep the damage limited (only three runs allowed despite walking 5 over 6 innings). Lifetime, he's 9-6 with a 4.17 ERA against us, but at McAffee that ERA rises to 6.00. Anderson was killed by one poor inning in his last start against the M's, where he allowed five runs on just as many hits in the second inning. He bounced back nicely, but our offense just couldn't catch up.

We most definitely have our work cut out for ourselves. We were swept at home by the M's, a team who was more or less on our level, and now we've got to face the Sox. Joy. IMO, we're only as good as our pitchers are, so if they can keep us in the game, then I think we might have a chance to win a few (or at least one). I'll be at all three games, so let's hope for an exciting series!

I love it when a woman says anyhoodles I could see the A's splitting the series.

It'd be pretty hard to split a 3-game series

I agree with HCG that the A's have their work cut out for them, but I could see them taking 2 games from this series. Not that I would put money on it, but they definitely could win game 3 as well as 1 of the first 2.

I like the Sox to take 2 of 3, as their bats are due to breakout and the young staff of OAK will have a hard time with the patient Red Sox lineup

Yeah like I said, we're only as good as our pitchers. Then again, your pitchers aren't doing so hot either. Then again, our lineup, while good on paper, hasn't performed quite up to par just yet. Then again, it's just the beginning of the season. So yeah it could go either way I suppose.

So so so so so we're leading 7-2 in the top of the eigth!!!!! We got five runs right off the bat in the second, and Braden's did a great job at stifling the Sox offense (with the exception of Youkilis). Nice to see our offense picking it up too. The two homers by Cust and Garciaparra (against his old team nonetheless) were great. Let's hope Casilla can shut 'em down the rest of the way!

A's finished up the Red Sux 8 - 2. Hopefully, they can win at least 1 more to take the series.

So I was planning to go to tonite's game, but I now have a fever, so I can't (frickin hail storms over here with like 40 degree weather and a wind chill that makes it even colder. I wasn't even outside for more than 10 minutes and I'm already sick. Joy).

One down, one on, Ortiz at the plate. Let's get this party started!

Well that inning couldn't have gone better. Wtf was Eveland's problem? There was absolutely no control! And tonite is a pitcher's nite too! Gallager was called to warm up, and it's only the first inning! Yikes!

A's pull off the walkoff win in extras to take the series. Great win for the A's and a great outing for the A's bullpen. They looked outstanding as we all thought they would.
