According to Thomas he didn't leave. He said they cut him so his option year wouldn't kick in and they'd owe him more money.

Sweeney will get less playing time or possibly be traded while stock is high.

I doubt they'll trade him. I have a feeling Frank Thomas is going to be very temporary for the A's

Why would he be temporary? Fact is the A's need power and Thomas provides that whereas Sweeney doesn't. Sweeney is likely the odd man out since Beane likes Thomas.

Are the A's out of power prospect that may be ready for a chance in the majors? I would think if they would have someone in AAA that has some power and is close to ready or ready that he would be the player to be added for power given the direction they are going in.

    Re: He's Back?

The A's brought in Thomas so to capitalize on the great start that we are off to. As for my opinion, I like it. He, Sweeny, and Brown should all be great mentors to the young guys on the team and they should learn a lot from him/then. Just look at Swisher.

But here's the setup...Cust, who was our original DH, will platoon with Brown in right, Barton and Sweeny will platoon at 1B, and Thomas and Sweeny and Cust will platoon at DH. And then if the A's feel that they don't need one of them, they'll put them up on the trading block and see what kind of prospects that they can bring in. But man is that confusing!

Thomas gets to battle a guy hitting over .300 in part time duty and a guy who's got about twice as many walks as hits. Fun times for the Big Hurt.

I know. I'm happy that we signed him. Hopefully he'll be able to produce for us.

Geren was saying that if anyone would be getting less ABs, that it would be Sweeney. So signs do point to him leaving...it's still an "if" though. Not yet a "when".
