I still think that we should shop him around a little. There's a lot of teams who could use a closer right now, and we seem to have a surplus of good pitching right now (knock on wood) so shopping him around seems to be a good idea.

Great job to our pitching coach Curt Young for being able to help these guys during ST and get them off to a great start.

Brown finally gave up his first run of the season on Saturday. He's pitched in 14 games for 17 innings with an ERA of 0.53.

Casilla still hasn't given up a run. He's pitched in 16 games for 15.1 innings with only 2 walks and 20 k's.

Street also got his 9th save today. Even with Casilla's scoreless inning streak-thing, I don't see Street losing his job just yet.

I'm not saying Street should lose his job like that...I meant Casilla's emergence allowing us to trade Street...

FYI (per ESPN) - Casilla's scoreless streak (16 1/3) is the longest by an A's reliever starting a season since Jim Corsi went 18 1-3 innings in 1995.

All I know it is a positive situation in all ways for the A's. With both Street and Casilla doing great it gives the A's a lot of possibilites.

Casilla gave up his first earned run yesterday...he got the win today. 2 - 0 now with a 0.47 ERA in 19.1 innings. He's got 22 k's and only 4 walks...he's only given up 11 hits as well.

Huston Street really hasn't been bad either. He has posted a 4.11 ERA and 9 saves and only has walked 5 guys all season.

0.47 or 4.11? hmmm...I know he's been better lately, but Casilla's got him beat. All the more reason to trade him if we fall out of contention like we're supposed to. Obviously, if we stay in it, then we should keep him.

Oh, I am not saying Casilla hasn't been better than Street, but Street hasn't faltered quite yet to lose his job. Like you said Street could be great trade bait if the A;s drop out of the race.

Re: Casilla pushing Street out the door?

as I said earlier, the only way I see Street "losing" his job is if he's traded...my whole assertion is that Casilla is pitching so well this year (combined with his fine season last year) that he would make it easier for us to trade Street for some prospects...but of course that is all contingent on whether or not we're contending and as of now we are, so nothing will happen. But I guarantee that if we're out of it by the deadline, that Street will be moved...I'd be shocked if he wasn't under that scenario.

Cards might be interested in Street.

Yeah, with that whole Isringhausen and Franklin or whoever else they have closing games situation. Could be a very interesting trade deadline this year.

Re: Casilla pushing Street out the door?

There is a very nice article about Casilla on the A's site now.

The Official Site of The Oakland Athletics: News: Casilla cruising comfortably with A's

This season, he is a big reason Oakland relievers rank first in the American League with eight wins and a 2.79 ERA. Overall, Oakland's pitching is tops in the American League with a 3.29 ERA.
that's the key right there...our bullpen has been stellar.
