The River Cats (24-23), who are second in the South Division of the Pacific Coast League, couldn't pull out a 13-inning affair that included a one-hour and 20-minute rain delay. Center fielder Javier Herrera was 2-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBIs, and catcher Steve Jackson was 2-for-5 with a home run.

Herrera was called up to AAA from single A Kane County (this is excellent news...if he stays at AAA all year, he could be up with the A's next year at 21 years old). He is a speedy CF with power. If we keep Kots one of them could anchor LF.

Jack Cust continues to do well for AAA, too...I thought he was a 1B, but I guess he's an OF

John Rheinecker continues to pitch well as a starter for AAA. He's undefeated, has an ERA under 2.00, and has yet to give up a homer. He turns 26 this weekend, so he's still young

Maybe they should consider calling up Rheinecker. Blanton definitely needs to get some work in Sacramento.

I agree...I'm not sure what pitches he throws, but they could at least use him out of the bullpen since Rincon is the only lefty...but that is the least of our problems

It appears Herrera got sent back down to A kane county because he's not on the AAA roster anymore...I hope it has to do with recent roster shuffling with AAA and Oakland because he was doing quite well in the 5 games he played at AAA...

I emailed Urban's mailbag asking what the deal with Herrera and his recent movement is...why did he go up to AAA instead of AA from A? and why did he get sent back to A after 5 days and not AA? Just seems odd. He's answered 1 of my questions in the past...when we first got Lilly and he then got injured like right away. I asked if Lilly was possibly damaged goods because that seemed awfully shady that he got hurt right when we got him...he had arm problems, not like he got hurt during a specific play or anything

Apparently, we have another 1B prospect. Brant Colamarino was called up from AA to AAA to take Johnson's spot. He was batting .321 with 10 homers and 45 RBIs with 4 triples for AA. In 3 games for AAA he's already hit 2 homers and 1 triple with a .400 average

I say ship Durazo and Hatteberg out after this season and start Johnson and Colamarino and DH and 1B respectively. Hatteberg's getting old anyway and he's been mostly average. Durazo may get expensive. Might as well get the kids some of that full-time big league experience sooner rather than later.

I never heard of Colamarino. He is 24, throws left, bats left...I'm not sure when he was drafted, but he's less than year younger than Crosby.

edit: Drafted: Selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 7th round (218th overall) of the 2002 amateur entry draft.
