    Andy Phillips

So, what is his role going to be? He's out of options, had a great year in AAA, has a good spring. Will he be Giambi's backup, or will he be put on waivers? I figure he'll have a place on the team, there's no reason for him not to unless the Yankees are out of space. Will he be an everyday first baseman? Or will he play sporadically at DH/1B depending on where Giambi plays?

It's interesting that a guy with those types of minor league stats hasn't gotten a chance so far.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

I believe Philips can also play 2B and 3B. Then again, we got Cairo for that.

Giambi's replacement at 1st, perhaps sporadically as an outfielder, and a DH. He will have to fit the super-utility role or will be dealt.

He'll get ABs. He'll fill in for Giambi at 1B and will get some DH ABs.

Phillips is a lefty-smacking corner man, who, like virtually everyone not on the Yankees roster, is not one of Joe Torre's pets.
