Yankees Yanks rotation set...for now (Pavano out)

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2392474

PHOENIX -- Yankees manager Joe Torre picked Chien-Ming Wang and Shawn Chacon for the third and fourth spots in New York's rotation Friday, leaving Jaret Wright as the fifth starter and long reliever.

The Yankees also shut down right-hander Carl Pavano, who already had been scheduled to begin the season on the disabled list because of a back injury. Pavano bruised his left buttocks diving for first base while making a play in a minor league game on Tuesday.

An MRI in Tampa, Fla., on Thursday was negative, Torre said, but "he's got some pain and he's going to be shut down until that pain disappears."
Johnson, Mussina, Wang, Chacon, and Wright...not exactly a worrisome rotation for the other teams. The Yanks are going to need all the runs they can get IMHO.

Ohh for sure... The weight will be on their offense to carry this team outside of when Johnson is on the mound. Outside of him, that rotation shouldn't be to intimidating to other teams.
"They asked me if I wanted the ball in Game 6, and I said yes. I'll always say yes. That's what I did with Jack McKeon. I told him, 'Let me see how I feel tomorrow.' I went out, did a long toss, came in and said, 'I'll pitch, I want it, I want to do it.' And it ended up working out." -Josh Beckett

This rotation reeks of streaky. Any five of those guys can go on a run of starts where they look unbeatable, or completely beatable. Johnson should be somewhat reliable, but the rest could go anywhere.

The offense has to be hurting a bit as I know Matsui has swelling in his knees, and playing through the pain doesn't seem like a good sign.

As long as Randy is randy at the top and Chacon and Wang weren't 1 hit wonders last year our rotation will be pretty good. The top 4 I have alot of confidence in but zero in Wright- hopefully Pavano can work his way back.
