    RIP Yankees 2011 Season

Cliff Lee to sign with the Phillies, according to Joel Sherman. There's no way they can compete with the Red Sox at this point unless they make a huge splash somewhere unexpected.

Brainwash the brewers into dealing Fielder for Francisco Cervelli to be your new and improved DH, steal Zach Greinke for a bag of lithium and valium. There's still hope.

I think we all know who the most hated non-Red Sox is in New York...he took $50 mil and 2 years less to go to Philly

Maybe he looked up Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano, Jeff Weaver, AJ Burnett, Javy Vazquez and thought.. hey.. maybe I could pitch well there, or maybe I could suck like all of those guys. He still chose a contender, a crazy serious one at that. Not everyone has to pick New York, it's not a rule. If he becomes the most hated for making a decision like that, then that's kinda sad on those fan's part. He never had any attachment to New York. He wasn't born there, he never played there, so I don't see the cause for any perceived "hatred".

Just throw 200 million at the next sexy player and move on.

I think if you were basically telling a guy you're our only hope, threw $153 mil at him and the length of contract he wanted, then sat on it until someone else offered him $50 mil less and he jumped on it in a half hour, you'd be pretty ****in pissed at him too. Trust me

Lee never really wanted to leave Philly to begin with. Texas did warm up his heart some and NYY was just being played.

The feeling's probably mutual. Yankee fans threw shit at his wife.

Every team has drunk fans that do dumb shit. I think they're rational enough to know that

Wait. Whoops. Apparently he's not. According to Phillies beat writer Randy Miller, Cliff Lee's wife wanted NO part of NY and was a major factor in him not signing there

Well, like they always say, it only takes one to spoil it for everyone, is it fair? No, but it is what it is.

    Doesn't matter.

When you go to a city and get mistreated like that it leaves a bad stain in your mouth, rationality be damned.

And really, what's the difference between 100 million dollars and 150 million?

And I don't mean dollars. If someone has ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS is another 50 really going to make his life any better? (And let's not forget, Cliff's already been paid around 23 million over his career.)

That's a rhetorical question, by the way. The extra 50 is not going to make anyone's life better. Anyone who says it would only cares about the perceived prestige that comes with saying "I'm making 150 million" as compared to "I'm making 100 million" even though both salaries give you more money than you can spend in 3 lifetimes.

I'm not being facetious when I ask didn't you once argue that you don't allow a silly thing like pride to get in the way of making a rational decision?

    Re: RIP Yankees 2011 Season

You got me there, but this wasn't my decision and I know how other people respond to some things.

plus, I wasn't engaged when I made that remark and, while I wouldn't let a few stupid fans insulting me get in the way, if they pissed off my wife I might let it get in the way.
