    Jeter Stays a Yankee

Its official. He resigns with the Yankees for 3 years and somewhere between $45-51 with a "very complicated" 4th year vesting option according to Mark Feinsand of the Daily News on Twitter. Im on my phone so I cant make a poll with the thread, but to you, do you think Jeter was worth this deal to the Yankees? Not to anyone else, to the Yankees.

    Re: Jeter Stays a Yankee

To answer the poll and the way the question was phrased, yes. From his value and worth as a player, absolutely no. The Yankees have the cash, Jeter is one of the most important pieces to their iconic franchise. To cement that history, from amateur draft to retirement, the awards, the rings... and the millions that he is worth alone as a ticket draw, a merchandise seller, and an ambassador for the team and the franchise, it was an easy decision. He will be 37 next season and him bouncing back somewhat is not impossible (look at 2008 versus 2009), but this is a move to finish the pages on the Jeter legacy and not because he is irreplaceable in the field, but off.

They overpaid, but it doesn't really matter.

However, playing devils advocate here: if the Yankees are supposidly willing to do whatever it takes to win, why would they not only give him a huge contract but accept a relatively big black hole in their lineup at SS the next 3 years?

They overpaid, they overpaid him in his first original big deal, the thing is they bidded against themselves.

    Another Mark Feinsand tweet:

BloggingBombers: Jeter is guaranteed $51 million. If he exercises the option, he's guaranteed $56 million for four years, but can make up to $65 million.

Considering this is the team that paid so much for Glass Carl, Kei Igawa, and company.. I'd say he's easily worth whatever they end up paying him.

100% worth it. You don't need an all star at every position to win the WS. Also, you cannot replace a Derek Jeter.

Definitely not worth the money he made. There was no reason at all for the Yankees to give in.

They didn't give in. The original offer was 3 years, 45 mil. Jeter's demands were 5-6 years around $100 mil. Turned out to be 3 years, $51 mil with a 4th year vesting option. That's not really giving in.
