    Yankees MO gets PAID!!

Christian Red of the New York Daily News reports that the Yankees have reached a two-year, $30 million contract with Mariano Rivera.
The deal is expected to be finalized on Friday night. Rivera was asking for a two-year contract worth around $18 million per season and came very close to getting what he wanted. The 41-year-old posted a fantastic 1.80 ERA and 0.83 WHIP along with 33 saves in 38 opportunities this past season.
$15 million per for a closer is just outrageous but if anyone deserves it, its Rivera. I was 100% dead wrong about the last deal he signed so I'm not going to say anything about this one. Keep doing what you're doing, MO. Better money spent than what they will for Jeter.

Jon Heyman is reporting he turned down 2 similar contract offers from the Angels and Red Sox, both worth about 3 years and $45 mil

I like his decision though. As much as I hate the yankees, having him pitching with either rival would have been odd.

he is 41 years old. Good for him getting paid but, I see the saves being fewer and the era on the rise.

I think he should have mulled it over for a day, just to get a reaction from Papelbon. Entertainment!

But yet the imbalance of the financial setup is not a problem in baseball.

You have a problem with the Yankees overpaying for a man that only plays in 60 games? I sure don't. You Reds closer is not far off as far as salary.

I know, they were bidding against themselves. Who in their right mind even for a guy like Mo how many teams could pay him anywhere close to that?

And that is also why Cordero is being shopped around and being rumored in a deal with the mets for Beltran or K-Rod. Reds chose poorly in that case. Everyone knew that Jeter and Mo were going no where. No other team can afford to pay that kind of jack (especially for Jeter) at this point in their careers.
