Why fire the pitching coach? He was not the one on the mound pitching. It's the pitchers fault not his.

his job description is to coach he pitchers. If he's not held accountable for poor performance of the players he's coaching then what's the point of having a "pitching coach"?

Take this as you will, and believe if you want or don't believe it if you want, but according to Cashman, the decision was not based on performance. He labeled the reason as "private"

There was that stint in July he was away on "personal" days as well.
I don't want to speculate, but I am guessing this is connected.

I'm going to guess that it's a combination of the "personal reasons" and the fact that the Yankees want to hold someone accountable. Not to be a jerk, but that's always been the Yankee way. If a season doesn't end in enough success, someone has to be blamed. And I guess in this situation, since he had the personal reasons and probably wanted to spend time dealing with them anyway, he was the one to go.
