Typically, when neither team's fans want to lose the players involved in a two team trade, it likely won't happen.

Of course, Gammons is just reporting that Cashman has interest in Kotsay and he might be willing to give up one or more big prospects.

With that said, it won't happen. Kotsay's a good fit in Oakland.

The Yankees defense is also the second worst in the game, better only the Reds. I'm not sure that Kotsay (acquired only for his glove) would have enough of an effect on that. At least enough effect to offset the damage he would do to a top-heavy offense, anyway.

Matsui is a career .292 hitter, Williams is a career .300 hitter (those days are behind him as in the last 3 years his highest average is .263), Sheffield is a career .298 hitter, Womack at .273, and Sierra is at .268. Kotsay is right there with them, so if he "can't hit", then neither can they I guess

The Yanks don't need a .270 dink-and-dunk hitter in the outfield. Sheff and Matsui are good for over 100 RBIs a year. They can mash. Kotsay is a good little poke hitter, and I give him a lot of credit for batting over .300 in the Canyon. The Yankees need another slugger out there, not another Tony Womack.
