If the situation is right, Flaherty will catch Johnson. That will be up to Torre. But he will never be a personal catcher.

Only one boxscore, but it appears Leyritz WAS NOT a personal catcher for Andy Pettitte in 1996. No appology is needed, we all make mistakes.

Check the boxscores of all the postseason games and Leyritz was in there for every Pettitte start. I understand we all make mistakes, no need to apologize.

But your statement was "Leyritz was Pettitte's personal catcher in '96.". Post #33 of this thread. I do not think a few post season games defines the 96 season. You erred, and are trying to cover your butt.

Actually, postseason games do define the season. The postseason and the championship are all that matter, and are the only goal of the YANKEES. Therefore, what happens in a single postseason matters much more than the regualr season, defining the team where it matters most.

If nyjunc says he was only defining the post season, I will accept his word. However, it is my opinion that he wasn't.

There will always be games when a personal catcher does not catch that pitcher, it's a long season. In your boxscore Leyrtiz played 3B so obviously Boggs was either hurt or needed a day off and Leyritz filled in at 3rd. 90% of the time Leyrtiz caught Pettitte and he caught him all theough the postseason which are the most important games.

Leyritz may have caught Pettitte most during the 162 game season. Also the most important games are the 162 game season, for without them no team can ever achieve the playoffs. Point being, the YANKEES have not used a personal catcher.
