    Yankees Sir Sidney's New Home

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports that the Yankees have signed free agent Sidney Ponson to a minor league contract.
The rest of the AL East must be worried now. Ponson had a 3.88 ERA before getting kicked off the Rangers, but there was no real chance of him keeping it up.
Playoffs bells just ringing in my ears now. The man was released from the Rangers of all teams for being a cancer in the clubhouse. This is the same team that has Milton Bradley so he must have been a huge dick! Wang goes down and they replace him with a dick! Go figure.

Why not? He is available and cheap. The Yankees have tried to buy pennants for several years to no avail. Now they are trying cheap.

Because of the reasons I just laid out. That and he has an ERA over 10 as a Yankee.

Big Mistake for the Yankees. I predict he don't last the year with the Yanks. He is such an asshole.

If the Rangers have to cut a pitcher, that's a very bad commentary on him. Ponson is also moving to a division with FAR superior hitters. He will probably struggle a bit in the AL East...looking at a high 4's ERA at least.

Bad choice here.. What happened to the Yankee's trading for a guy like Sabathia or maybe looking to the Rockies for a sp IE Jeff Francis.

I look forward to the Twins pounding Sidney!

I don't like Ponson at all, but this is purely for depth people. I doubt he makes more than one start with the Yankees.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

I will bet he makes more than one start. Wang is done for six weeks. I dont see much in AAA that can step in either. Good luck with Ponson..

He's not Wang's replacement, he may make a few starts or he may nnot. They are trying anything rather than giving up big prospects for a guy like Sabathia. I much prefer this method. There's very little risk, either he gets a chance and succeeds or he struggles and they get rid of him like they did a few years ago. Not every move has to be a blockbuster, I'm sure we'll see more moves like thiis trying to patch the rotation together until Huges and/or Kennedy can come back.

    Ponson?

OK, I understand the emergency spot starter need...

But we definitely have guys in AAA...

    Marquez, Steven White, Chase Wright...

Plus, Kennedy is making rehab starts soon and we have Giese, Traber and even Scott Patterson available if we want.

Who the **** wants to trade away a great farm system for CC (who has been less than great) or ****ing Jeff Francis?

    No thank you.

not francis. sabathia was in a slump before, but he's been quite good as of late. he's an outstanding pitcher. we could sign him long term, and he would be a great fit for the team. the yankees need a true strikeout pitcher who can go long innings. i've been recently starting to side with those that say wang is not a true ace. he's a perfect #2 starter. he's not as reliable as an ace should be. he's an excellent pitcher, but he just isn't as reliable as i'd like. CC is a very reliable pitcher. the beginning of this year was the first time i've ever seen him struggle a lot, and he's STILL near or at the top of the AL strikeout list, and his ERA is dropping rapidly. those guys in AAA or AA are not what the Yankees need. to make a playoff push, they need at least 1 dominant guy, they won't get anywhere with a patchwork rotation.
