Yankees vs Red Sox Take 1: Let The Hype Begin

The greatest rivalry in all of sports is back tonight. 7:05 ET at Fenway Pahk,

    Lineups

    New York Yankees

    1. Melky Cabrera CF
    2. Robinson Cano 2B
    3. Bobby Abreu RF
    4. Alex Rodriguez 3B
    5. Hideki Matsui LF
    6. Jorge Posada DH
    7. Jason Giambi 1B
    8. Jose Molina C
    9. Alberto Gonzalez SS

    Boston Red Sox
    1. Coco Crisp CF
    2. Dustin Pedroia 2B
    3. David Ortiz DH
    4. Manny Ramirez LF
    5. Kevin Youkilis 3B
    6. JD Drew RF
    7. Jason Varitek C
    8. Sean Casey 1B
    9. Julio Lugo SS

    Pitching Matchup

    Chien-Ming Wang (2-0, 1.38)

    vs

    Clay Buchholz (0-1, 5.40)

Just the lineups everyone predicted for the first Yanks/Sox series...Jose Molina, Alberto Gonzalez, Sean Casey, Melky and Crisp hitting leadoff, no Jeter, Damon, Ellsbury, or Lowell...nonetheless the rivalry is back. I'll be thrilled if the Yanks win the series. As it is I wouldn't be surprised if Boston takes 2 out of 3.

A few random observations and notes on tonight's game:

    - Career vs Chien-Ming Wang: Manny Ramirez is 13 for 22 with 2 HRs, David Ortiz is 15 for 30 with 2 HRs. YIKES!!
    - Jeter probably won't play in this series, and if he does, it won't be until Sunday, according to Brian Cashman.
    - Remember how bad Wang was on the road last year? This is his first road start of the year...this'll be something to monitor this season.
    - First time the Yankees have ever faced Clay Buchholz.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Jeter being out is going to really come back to the haunt the Yankees, no matter how bad his start was.

Probably either going to get rained out or be played in horrific conditions...

A-Rod hits a grounder down the line that Casey makes a nice diving stop on, throws it to Buchholz for the first out.

Lowell seems to always do well against the Yankees too, Casey will probably have a 3 hit game now.

Matsui lines a base hit to center, great swing on a good pitch by Buchholz down and in.

The Yankees seem to be working the count pretty on...now they just need to get some base hits.

Posada grounds out weakly to first base, Casey unassisted. Matsui moves to second with two outs.

Giambi absolutely rips the ball to right-center, but Coco Crisp comes over from CF to make the catch.

    0-0 after 1 and a half.

Manny goes down swinging. Nice way to start for Wang against two guys who do great against him.
