    Mets Sanchez Gone, Pagan Hurt

    Mets released RHP Duaner Sanchez.
Sanchez's velocity has yet to come back since suffering a separated shoulder in a 2006 car accident and by releasing him the Mets get out from under all but $276,339 of his $1.688 million contract. He was reasonably effective last season despite diminished raw stuff, going 5-1 with a 4.32 ERA in 66 appearances, so Sanchez should latch on elsewhere as a middle reliever. Bobby Parnell is now more likely to earn a spot in the Mets' bullpen.

Angel Pagan underwent surgery to repair a bone spur in his right elbow on Wednesday and is expected to miss six to nine weeks.
Regardless of whether or not he makes it back on the front end or back end of that timetable, odds are that Pagan will initially spend time in the minors upon his return.
Tough break for Sanchez getting hurt in that accident he had no control over but he had to go. Mets aren't losing a lot of money buying out Sanchez. There are still relievers like Beimel and Ohman out there if the Mets wanted them.

Pagan's job was already in jeopardy with Cory Sullivan doing so well this spring. Sullivan is a lock right now to make the team.

Ohman would cost them a 1st round pick, wouldn't he?

Ohman was not a Type A free agent.

About Duaner Sanchez, damaged shoulder + big drop-off in velocity = game over.

I liked Duaner, it's too bad he could never recover from that stupid taxi cab accident.

I liked Duaner too, but like I said, he's done. Over. Fin.

I wouldn't be that sure. He'll never be the same, but if he develops a really good breaking ball, he could be a very solid MR....Even last year his ERA was only in the 4mid to high 4's....a little improvement and he could be a useful player.

If the Mets believed that Sanchez still has the ability to maintain a mid-to-high 4's ERA this year, they obviously wouldn't have released him. What's $1.4 million to the Mets?

But they had other cheaper options(ie: Bobby Parnell, Darren O'Day, Brian Stokes, etc)

But mainly because their arms are in a lot better shape than Duaner's.

I told you Duaner was done. 9.00 ERA, 2.36 WHIP

You're right, he hasn't seemed very good so far. Maybe the Mets made the right choice with him.
