    Mets Mets Signed Garcia

The Mets have reportedly signed Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract.
The deal will allow him to earn up to $8 million-$9 million, though he'd probably have to spend all year in the rotation to get that much. We hope this doesn't take them out of the market for Oliver Perez. Garcia is anything but a sure bet to make a strong return from his shoulder problems.
Good god man!! I almost threw up my breakfast when I read this. There is no way Garcia should be able to make that much. Looks like the Mets replaced Pedro with a younger version of Pedro and by that I mean broke down. My guess is he makes the team, gets his money and breaks down in April.

He won't get that much. From my understanding, to make the full 8 million, he'd have to pitch like 200 innings, make the team out of ST, and probably win 10-15 games. He will earn like 5 million at best. I think it's a solid deal since nothing is guaranteed.

If Garcia earns 9 million the Mets better be in the WS, thats all I gotta say lol. And if the Mets make the WS, then they won't care how much they are paying him anyways.

This also shows that if you are confident in yourself you should take a 1 year deal and ask for a ton in incentives at a lower base salary.

I feel as if this is a good deal for the Mets, considering who else is out there.

Seriously, I don't think it's possibly a bad deal. NOTHING AT ALL is guaranteed, and the better he does the more he earns. If he goes 190 IP, 13-8 with an ERA under 4, in today's market, I'll give him 9 million bucks. And if he can't stay healthy, he gets the minimum. Great risk if you ask me.

On the off chance he goes back to his old self, it's not bad. But it's A REAL OFF chance.

Mets need to get serious about real solutions.

Well, if we have Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, (Perez, Sheets, or Wolf), and (Redding, Niese, or Garcia), that'd be a solid rotation.

Could be a decent deal for the Mets. Low risk, high potential reward. I'm actually surprised he would agree to such a deal.

This is true, but what are the odds that the Mets don't sign ONE of Perez, Garland, Wolf, or Sheets?
