    Mets Any Concern Over WBC?

Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, David Wright and now Pedro Feliciano have agreed to play in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. That's four key contributors for the Mets playing elsewhere come Spring Training. Does this concern anyone else? Minaya has to have some level of concern seeing so many of his team playing for someone else. One or two players might be fine but four? After the past couple of years blowing September leads, I think the Mets should be focused on fixing this problem. Maybe this is just me but I can see this being a potential problem.

The hitters should be able to handle the extra ABs, but I would be somewhat concerned about the pitchers.

You're not crazy, I'd be concerned with guys playing in the WBC as well...it didn't seem to have a positive overall impact last year.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Normally, I'd be worried, but I'm pretty sure Delgado and Reyes participated last time, and it didn't really effect their season numbers. Wright should be fine, and Feliciano is just a lefty specialist, so I'm not TOO concerned. I don't like it much, but if they want to, I trust them to make sure they don't get hurt or anything...

Delgado isn't exactly young and injury free. If the Giants had four players going, that would concern me.

True, but injuries were pretty infrequent in the last WBC, I mean, the extra AB's won't hurt him and any injuries he is gonna get in the WBC, what stops him from getting the same injuries in Spring Training?

Like I said, Reyes and Wright don't worry me, and Feliciano isn't a big enough player to worry me.

Delgado participated last time (barely even played) and was fine. Beltran also participated (21 at bats) and had one of his best seasons as a Met. Reyes participated last time and didn't even start for the Dominican team, Wright did not play, but I'm not sure he'll even start over A-rod. Feliciano played last time, but only pitched 2.1 innings. I'm not too concerned. Especially since Minaya will probably give the managers set maximum amounts of playing time for his players.

No problem. I mean, I'd feel safer if they were in Training Camp instead of WBC, but it doesn't worry me.

Add J.J. Putz to the list of Mets playing in the WBC. That's five Mets now!!

Unfortunately, by my count, it's more than that. According to unconfirmed(or not yet official) reports it's Wright, Reyes, Johan, K-rod, Beltran, Putz, Delgado, Feliciano.

    Re: Any Concern Over WBC?

Like I said though, Reyes and Wright won't start(Tejada started over Reyes last time and probably will again), Wright will split time at best with Chipper, Feliciano, Putz, and K-rod will probably pitch less than 10-15 innings, Delgado only had 1 AB last time. So, it's mainly Johan and Beltran that worry me, but it should be fine.....I hope.

    Re: Any Concern Over WBC?

Johan Santana said Wednesday that the Mets may block him from playing in the World Baseball Classic following offseason knee surgery.
"My mind is set to play, but at this point I don't know what is going to happen with the medical staff and the team. They have a lot to protect," Santana said. "If they don't want me to play then I won't play."
About time Omar! Good for you!

Yeah, that's probably a good move by the Mets. Anyone rehabbing from surgery or an injury should not be playing in this joke of a tournament
