Mets Getting Desperate for Starting Pitching?

Millwood, Padilla drawing some interest | FanNation

According to SI's John Heyman, the Mets have inquired about both Vincente Padilla and Kevin Millwood from the Rangers. I just hope the Mets aren't actually that interested and are just testing the waters. No reason to get THAT desperate yet.

Additionally, according to Peter Gammons, last offseason the Rangers demands for Padilla were Aaron Heilman, Mike Pelfrey, and Deolis Guerra. Seems like a damn steep price for a mediocre pitcher, who may or may not give you 200 innings in any given year. (See below)

Like I said, the article only states that the Mets reached out to the Rangers. I wouldn't mind getting one of those guys cheap as my 5 starter, but I want to sign someone like Lowe, Burnett, etc first.

I believe the Mets are probably just testing the trade waters, and I doubt anything will come of this rumor.

    Millwood doesn't come cheap.

Guy went 9-10 with a 5+ ERA last year, and made 10+ million dollars. I wouldn't give an inordinate amount of prospects for that.

I was speaking in terms of salary. He won't come cheap. I doubt the Mets would have to give a lot for him. Maybe Heilman

I remember when an All Star game had to end in a tie to preserve Vicente Padilla's precious arm.

I remember when Vincente Padilla was a solid player for my fantasy baseball team.
