The Mets absolutely could get Garland if you make a hard enough push. He shouldn't be that expensive, especially since he hasn't gotten much interest
I'd give him 3 or 4 years, 10-12 million per. I hope Omar Minaya is calling his agent right now.

The Mets are being called the frontrunners to sign Japanese reliever Ken Takashi. His stats in Japan are decent at best...no word yet on a true scouting report.

According to USA Today, the Mets non-tendered Argenis Reyes and Ambiorix Burgos last week. I won't miss Burgos at all, and that was a terrible deal where we gave up Bannister for him. I liked Reyes however, and hopefully they can come up with a deal to bring him back, because Castillo will certainly not be healthy all season.
Of course you won't miss Burgos!! He'll be in ****ing prison!!!
Haha, he sucked when he was healthy, he missed a year and a half with tommy john surgery, and he's a crazy asshole who deserves to spend life in jail. Burgos should just disappear, which he may after this arrest and imprisonment.
According to multiple sources, the Mets are quiety shopping Luis Castillo, willing to deal for just about anything where the other team would take responsibility for at least part of his salary, obviously, with the intention of then signing Orlando Hudson who has said he wants to be a Mets.
I was thinking, we need to get rid of Hudson. The Cubs wanted to get rid of Marquis, because they thought it would help them get Peavy. We could use a back end of the rotation starting pitcher. Marquis makes 10 million this year, Castillo makes 18 million over 3 more years. A swap of those two contracts would be fair...they'd cut payroll, we'd have a shorter term deal, and an opening for Hudson. Any thoughts?
Cubs don't need Castillo at all. It would be a waste.
They would cut costs on a per year basis, and would then have the money to possibly re-inquire on Peavy. I know Castillo's not a spectacular player anymore(understatement), but he can't split time with DeRosa or Fontenot?
Why would the Cubs pay that kind of money for a third string second baseman? Cubs do not need Luis Castillo is my point. Why take on money for a guy you don't need or even want?
Because taking on that amount of money clears space in the short term for Jake Peavy, a guy who would be such a drastic improvement over Marquis, that one could consider taking on some extra money.
Clearing only $3 million for this year while paying $12 million over the next two is not exactly doing the Cubs any favors. That is not going to get them Jake Peavy. Remember, they are looking for a RFer too. Castillo has no place on the Cubs.
They'd clear 4 million this year, and while they would take on 12 million, they have made it clear that they want to move Marquis, no one else has shown any interest in him. Maybe you're right and it doesn't help them, but neither does holding on to a mediocre overpaid unwanted pitcher.
