I agree with most of what you said. I wish Greeny would come back, but he'll only go to the west coast. Lofton would be nice, but I'm not sure a no-power lefty is what Minaya is looking for.

No power but a career .300 hitter with speed and good on base skills. Alou didn't possess all that much power anyway.

Alou hit 13 HR(compared to Lofton's 7), in 172 fewer at bats. Alou has the same contact skill and more power. Obviously, Alou is the better player, save for injuries, but I would take Lofton.

I just don't think another old player is the answer to the Mets' needs. Give Alou a year, throw Chavez and possibly Easley in the mix, and let them handle the position until Fernando Martinez is ready.

Ruth was an American hero. I don't think you can really compare Ruth to Bonds....

Bonds is a great HR hitter, but I don't think you can really believe that Bonds would fit well in NY, it's just not a place that has anything good to say about him. He's hated here, much like everywhere, but here, fans are quicker to kick your ass as a player. I just don't see it being a good fit at all.
