Because he's inconsistent, and the 2nd and 3rd time a batter sees Willis they hit him hard.

Except for a July where he got roughed up (and only pitched 29 innings) he ran an ERA of 1.29, 2.06, 2.62, 1.06, and 2.49. Seems pretty consistent.Originally Posted by General
I don't really know how to prove this wrong with stats (either way, isn't this true with most pitchers, hitters are always going to hit better as the game goes on and they "figure out" a pitcher). But last year Dontrelle only allowed a .228 BA in innings 4-6, which is the lower than his 1-3 (and 7-9) innings.Originally Posted by General
I don't necessarily mean innings, but I'm not going on stats, just personal observations. I could be wrong, but its just my opinion.

I see, I wouldn't trade Willis for Wright either, but would take Willis over Verlander in a heartbeat. Willis is just a year older, has already established himself in the majors for multiple seasons, is coming off a Cy Young caliber season. And he's a lefty.
Willis will be after this season though. And of course if you are the Marlins you would make the trade but it takes two to tango and that's the problem. No way would the Mets get rid of Wright!
Thank god this never happened.
You can say that again. I might not have survived.
Apparently things have changed in the past 2 years.
This thread isn't one of my finer moments.

I would trade Willis for AA catcher Jose Lopez who hit .222 with 2 home runs and 10 rbis last year and is 23 years old.
Oh wait. No I wouldn't.
