Molina's Sim League Type A compensation discussion

And of course Mays signs with somebody who already traded away their pick they'd otherwise have to give up, so now I have to decide how to handle this.

Prospect of equal talent in relation to pick placement of signing team.

And player position obviously being whatever the player that signed was.

    That much seems obvious

But regarding LA, I don't think it would be fair to let the team off the hook in giving up a draft pick just because they traded it first when, if there's a type A next year and the signing team doesn't trade his pick he'll have to give it up.

I guess the only obvious choice is forfeiting the 2050 pick?

I'll have to give this some thought.

Or after this year if you don't have your first to forfeit you can't sign the free agent

Re: 2049 Free Agency round 1 signings

I don't like that option. The idea is to compensate the person losing the star and add a tad bit of hesitation for somebody to go all in on him. I don't like the idea of further outright restricting who can sign him when the game does enough of that on its own at sheer random.

Especially when you take into consideration that draft picks are often traded well before the GM even knows whether or not there'll be a FA he may want to go after that would cost a pick he no longer has. It'd make it practically impossible to anticipate before making a decision, in other words.

I'll likely either go with the idea of forfeiting the next year's draft pick or completely kill the notion of giving up a pick to sign him all together.

    Leaning towards the former.

    adds to the strategy

I think it was a great idea personally but having compensation during free agency in itself is a great idea (for a sim league).

Or stop allowing the trading of picks

I don't like that either. Trading is part of what makese these fun and I think you kill a lot of that when you remove the added leverage trading draft picks gives you.

I say this even despite the fact that eliminating the ability to trade picks would make my life a heck of a lot easier on the 6/1 sim.

Re: 2049 Free Agency round 1 signings

It's the most effective way to do it.

Edit: because what if that teams pick is 1-16. That team gets a better pick than the stated compensation.

what if you prevented trading of picks, but still enabled trading of prospects with those picks?

Not sure I follow your edit scenario. Either way the compensation will be an equivalent pick and a created prospect.

Re: 2049 Free Agency round 1 signings

Not trading draft picks would be sad, I think it's one of my favorite things in a league. Plus it makes the draft more interesting.

I'd say for future reference, if they don't have a pick and sign a Comp A player, they forfeit their next pick the following season (or I guess when they next have their pick) but the team that lost the comp A guy still gets a player of equal talent to the pick the signing team would have had (if it was a playoff team or whatever was decided)

As the safest bet. And it does make the most sense.
Phillyfan's idea, albeit sadistic, is brilliant to me though. Glad I don't run a sim league
