Mauer has surgery

Batting Champ and All Star Joe Mauer had surgery for a kidney obstruction.

Apparently this was something minor that he's had since he was a kid, but no word yet if this is going to prevent him from playing in the World Baseball Classic.

I hope this is, as reported, nothing major. My wife has problems with her kidneys and they are bothersome, but seldom serious.

Definitely doesn't seem too serious, and because of the nature of most kidney problems, I don't think Twins fans have any reason to worry. Obviously, you just hope Mauer recovers quickly. As for the WBC...I think that's the least of most people's worries.

I, frankly, don't really care if he's ready to play in the WBC or not. I just hope he's 100% when the season starts, and it appears he will be.

Exactly. The WBC is just a nuisance to most fans. I would certainly think he'll be ready for the start of the season.
