Rookie of the Month: Francisco Liriano



The Twins became the first team in baseball history to collect all three monthly
awards as Joe Mauer, Johan Santana and Francisco Liriano picked up American League honors
on Sunday. The Twins went 19-7 in June, including winning 17 of 18 games to finish the month.

Mauer, who leads the Major Leagues with a .392 batting average, went 42-for-93 and
hit .452 in 24 games last month. He added a .624 slugging percentage with a .528 on-base
percentage.

The 2004 American League Cy Young Award winner, Santana was 5-0 in June with a
1.05 ERA. He allowed only 24 hits in 43 innings, while striking out 44 batters and walking just five.

Liriano, who pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out a career-high 12 batters against
Milwaukee on Sunday, went 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA last month. He struck out 35 hitters, walked
seven and allowed 22 hits in 35 innings of work.

Liriano was runner-up to Santana. They were the only two starters who were looked
at for the award.
