Brewers Fielder to get $15.5 million!

Brewers and 1B Prince Fielder avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $15.5 million contract.
By all indications, this will be Fielder's final season with the Brewers. And he's being paid quite handsomely. The 26-year-old batted .261/.401/.471 with 32 homers and 83 RBI in 2010 and will aim to do even better in 2011 with free agency looming. A number of teams will try for him next winter.
All right big guy, its a contract year and the Brewers have given you a hefty pay raise and put pieces around you to compete for a WS title. I want to see how he responds.

Fielder is a great example to show why the Reds were smart to lock Votto up for his arbitration years. 16 mil for Fielder in 2011... he had a good season (not great) but with escalating numbers and the desire to avoid arbitrators... they had no choice.

I have a bad feeling the Cubs will end up signing him long term to like an 8 year deal.

Blame Ryan Howard, he's led the way for these huge deals. Of course, it's not like Fielder doesn't kill the ball.

He does kill the ball but I can't imagine him being valuable after 32 or so.

No argument here. Fatties don't age well.
