Brewers pick up pitching depth in Vargas

Brewers acquired RHP Claudio Vargas from the Dodgers for C Vinny Rottino.

The Brewers really played it cheap this summer. Vargas will be aked to provide rotation depth with Dave Bush and Jeff Suppan on the disabled list, but isn't currently stretched out enough and may pitch out of the bullpen initially. He had a a 1.64 ERA in eight relief outings for the Dodgers.

Risk free addition here, not a bad deal as Rottino isn't worth much of anything anymore.

It's a nothing for almost nothing trade. Can't hurt either team too much...

No wonder Vin Scully is coming back for another year. He had to know NedCo would stand pat like a f---ing pansy while every NL contender got better.

Didn't even pay for us to participate in a trade period. Just another waste from a previous year. We got rid of this guy for a reason.

Don't count either of these teams out on making another addition before August 31, though.

Guys like Danys Baez, Jon Rauch, Doug Davis, Jon Garland and Carl Pavano should be available next month through the waivers trading, so it's not over.

I know none of those guys are saviors, but they coiuld all probably help a team in a pinch.

At least Doug Davis knew how to pitch some when he was with us. I do hope we do more though. We need it. It won't help for anything major because I think we're out of it.
