Marlins The Worst Time Of The Year

It's the worst time of the year for the Marlins, arbitration time. The time of year when the Marlins actually have to spend money.
Marlins agreed to terms with outfielder Jeremy Hermida on a one-year, $2.25 million contract.
Hermida was arbitration eligible for the first time after a disappointing 2008 season. His .267/.342/.406 career line is underwhelming and a high strikeout rate will make it tough for Hermida to post big batting averages, but at 25 years old he's already shown 20-homer power and has the speed to swipe double-digit bases.

Marlins agreed to terms with first baseman-third baseman Jorge Cantu on a one-year, $3.5 million contract.

Cantu earned just $600,000 last season while turning around his career, hitting .277/.327/.481 with 29 homers and 95 RBI as the Marlins' primary third baseman. He's been mentioned in some trade rumors this offseason, but that happens to any Marlins player who starts making more than the minimum.
That's a possible 50 HRs for $5.75 million for the Marlins there. Uggla should be next time to sign. It will be interesting to see how much he gets.
