I love it how according to somebody, an unproven rookie is better than Smoltz.

And actually Harden pitched for the A's all of 2004. He was called up in 2003. So last year was the only time where he went on the DL. He's only 24.Originally Posted by Kingdom_of_Zito

AL
Johan Santana
Roy Halladay
Rich Harden
Barry Zito
Randy Johnson
HM-John Lackey believe it or not
NL
Chris Carpenter
Roy Oswalt
Jake Peavy
Carlos Zambrano
Dontrelle Willis
HM-Pedro Martinez
Just because Beckett changed leagues does not make him less of a pitcher. He's playoff proven, too.
He is also a blister waiting to happen. I can't see how you can put him in a league where he hasn't pitched before.
And yet you put Harden. If we're going to be biased against past-injured guys, let's be consistent.Originally Posted by love_that_reefer
Consistent is pitching in a league for at least a day. I am not going on prior injury, I am going on who's a better pitcher. Harden>Beckett and has actually pitched in the AL>
So we have to disqualify anyone from being Top 5 just because they changed leagues and haven't pitched in that league before?
Pedro Martinez was not a Top 5 pitcher when he went to the Red Sox? He'd never pitched in the AL before!
Did I say that? I said I couldn't put a guy like that on any list. And don't try to compare a guy who was coming off a CY Young year to Beckett. It just doesn't work. Beckett's good but he's not even better than Harden
I don't know whether or not Beckett should be top 5 in the AL
but he most definitely should not be DQed from the list just because he's changing leagues.
I understand the difference between a DH and no DH, but it's not enough of a difference to completely negate someone's proven effectiveness just because he hasn't pitched in that league before...at least not IMO

Hey, I totally agree that Harden's better than Beckett. I have it that way if you check my list also. I never said that Beckett should be above Harden, I'm just saying that even though a person changes leagues, it doesn't change how good they are, and thus should be eligible for these lists, as you have disapprovingly voiced your thoughts here:

Watch out for Lackey is all I'm saying. Kid keeps getting better every year and he had one helluva year last year.
NL sleeper - Aaron Harang. He's filthy when he got it going.

Its not just about a DH, it's a whole new set of hitters and ballparks. Just like with any hitter that switches leagues, I feel you have to prove you can do it first. Key word being "I".Originally Posted by HollywoodLeo
Yeah, but its easier for a pitcher to change leagues than it is for a hitter. The pitcher has an advantage because the majority of the hitters haven't seen said pitcher yet.
