Thread: Gold Glove Awards coming!

  1. #16
Both Wilson and Vizquel were very good fielders. If I had to choose, I'd go Wilson, but it's pretty darn close, and really, I'm not going to quibble about it unless it is a horrible mistake. Maybe Furcal would have been an even better choice, but I don't watch the NL much so I'm almost clueless on defense.

I like the Matheny choice. Actually, just from a scan, most of them seem acceptable.

Yeah I wouldn't have fussed if Wilson got it but Vizquel at his age leading all MLB SS's in fielding percentage is just amazing. The way he played this year was also amazing and the fact that he made Durham look good is three times as amazing. I apologize for saying amazing too many times

Amazing! LOL. Congrats to the winners. I think most of these guys deserved it with the exception of Hunter. He just did not play enough IMO.

That was a rather ho-hum selection.

What's wrong with the Abreu pick? He's a damn good OFer, imo. Nice to see him get some respect.

Abreu has a cannon. I don't mind the pick.

Abreu was not a top three defensive outfielder, I don't care if he had a real cannon for an arm. He doesn't have much range, and I simply have trouble believing he was better than someone like Willy Taveras or, well, you can name a number of guys.

Even the Philly fans commenting on the selection are laughing about it, since they know he's not that good. He's not Manny Ramirez...but I wouldn't be surprised if he's just a little bit better with a significantly better arm.

    Great, more Willy Taveras.

I only did that because of LTR, simply because I'm trying to learn how to spell his last name

I love how you guys have failed to find anything wrong with Willie.

You mean other than his slugg...*gets shot*

I actually do believe that Taveras is a better defensive OF than Abreu.

Vizquel and Torii both got it based on their reputations. Torii didnt play at all the last 70 games or so, that should have DQ'd him.

ESPN Sportscenter said that Jack Wilson had more DPs, Assists, and a couple other categories with the tie breaker being Vizquel's history fo being a great fielder. Besides those two none really stick out to me, I thought for sure Griffey was going to get another one after Torii got one and Griffey actually played about 40 games more .

"Oh, don't mind me, I'm rebuilding now" then you win at least 80 games

If Abreu was that good, he'd be in center. Taveras is a great glove in center. Griffey was never that good.

He is not a slugger. Does that make him a shitty player? That's like comparing JT Snow to Albert Pujols, not the same type hitter.
